digitizing old VHS, video and audio are not syncing in imovie

They looked fine when I was transfering them from a VHS player, through the Honestech product, to imovie. But when I look at them in imovie, they are out of sync. In fact, the moving bar isn't even in sync with what's in the viewing window. I have NO experience with this. Are my clips too long? Would I have better luck with clips of 20 mintues or so? (some are almost 2 hours long). Or is there somewhere in imovie (imovie '11) to adjust this?

Sort of. In the Modify Menu, you can Detach the audio then move it back into sync.
