My store has rMacbooks and I played with one for about half an hour.
Had to crank the screen brightness to see it well enough in the store. Kinda had to get the angle right to get full brightness. Anyway, my rMBP does not need to be "torched" to get plenty of brightness. Maybe a design compromise because of the battery, form factor, etc.
The positives:
Performance. I was shocked. I expected laggy, slow and it was not. Performance was more than acceptable on the 1.1 GHz machine. I opened up itunes, mail, safari with four tabs, photos and word. I was very impressed with the performance of the machine.
The sound is excellent. Very loud and clear. Don't expect bass, but more than adequate sound form the internal speakers.
The keyboard was awesome. I love the new keys. Felt like typing on something from the future. The keys are "bigger" than normal keys. The travel was fine. I felt right at home immediately.
The space gray is sick.
I think this machine in a 13.3 or 15" form factor would be out of this world. 12 is a little small for me.
If I was a road warrior, this is a no brainer purchase over a 13 air.
Overall, call me impressed.
