Hi

I want to give an audio playback app exclusive USB access to an external DAC/amp, as well as use audio unit plugins to process the output, even though the app doesn't support doing this. Is there some way to achieve this?

Thanks

A question like this might be better asked at gearspace.com -- which is where the digital audio guys hang out...

I would simply use Rogue Amoeba Soundsource and insert the AU plugin for that app only, and tell Soundsource to route it to the DAC. Soundsource is a neat menu bar item, and was made for things like this. It's $49, but I'm an old studio guy, my mac is very much built for audio, and I think it's worth every penny. However, I'd be surpriced if there wasn't a way to work around getting paid software to do this. Let's hope someone has a clever tip.

Tbh I never understood all the nuances between rogue amoeba's lineup: soundsource, loopback, and audio hijack seem to be basically the same product but with different UIs? I'm a simple guy, the model of Soundflower which creates a virtual audio-device input/output pair is basically perfect, I think Blackhole is the modern osx equivalent.

I have it and love it but since last upgrade to Sonoma from Ventura ,
my Apple studio display speakers have issues with the audio in QTmovies
If I disable their extension Audio Routing Kit (ARK) audio works but if it's on, some videos have muted audio
Why?!

Support with SoundSource is amazing: I contacted them and they gave me a link to a beta update fixing the problem and after few days a new version has been released and everything works very well 🥰
