Hey. my sisters macbook just got here so I'm wondering how I can set up a direct connection between her windows xp laptop and the new macbook? I have an ethernet cable and I would like to be able to just plug them into each other rather than plugging them both into the router. Thanks.

I know for sure that you can't do it with a standard Ethernet cable. The wiring won't work. You could use a crossover Ethernet cable to directly connect, but why not just use the router?

I don't know of any other good ways to do it, except Firewire, assuming your sister's Windows laptop has a Firewire port.

You can use a standard ethernet cable as all macs have autoswitching ethernet ports.
