Hello,

I have recently powered up my first Mac (24" iMac, 2.4GHz). Everyone in the house loves it. Now for the chore of moving 40 GB's worth of mp3, jpeg, and TivoToGo movies from my DELL PC running XP. I have searched this forum and Apple Support for best plan of action.
It appears that my best choice is to:
1. connect the iMac to the network in my home (have both the iMac and the DELL on the hardwired enet ports of the DSL router for best performance during the transfer).
2. Make sure the My Music, My Pictures, My Video are shared, and disable the firewall on the Windows XP for the transfer.
3. From iMac make the network connection to the folders (via samba?)

so next step I have a choice of

4a. straight copy of the above 3 folders to the iMac Desktop
launch iPhotos and iTunes to access the pictures and photos from
these now local folders.

or
4b. for My Pictures, lauch iPhotos and import from the network folder
similarly for My Music, launch iTunes and import from network folder.

Is there any advantage of one over the other?

Thanks much in advance and if this has already been discussed in another thread, just point me there and I would gladly RTFM ...

J.
