I have several external hard drives and I don't like to have them all mounted all the time - so it would be useful to print out a directory list as a quick reference before I switch one on to use it - just a few folders deep - or better still to have the listing as a searchable document on the main computer.

(I'm using OSx 10.68 at the mo.)

You used to be able to do this back in System 8 or 9 days - and I used to have an app which would even list the contents of any external device including CDs or DVDs - can't remember what that was and I can't find anything that does it now.

Any thoughts ?
