Hate this feature. How do I disable the contact photos from appearing especially in Messages. I haven't found the option anywhere

Don't think you can. They have removed the option to disable contact picture in the favorites section in the phone app.

if you dont want the contact photos to show up, why have photos for each contact in the first place?

When you don't have a picture you get a grey icon with the first letter from the name of the contact.
