Disable external mic and only use internal?

I have headphones that have an external mic, but the sound quality of my 2012 MBA's internal mic is much better. The problem is, once I plug in the headphones, it switches over to the headphone mic. There is no option in the sound settings to force it to use the MBA's internal mic. How can I do this?
