Apologies if this is not Tahoe-specific. I'm coming straight from Mojave and haven't kept up with interface changes in the inbetween versions.

But here goes: In Tahoe some of the Finder's toolbar icons are dynamically resizing depending on the available window width. Is there a preference somewhere or perhaps a less obvious 'defaults write' to turn this off and keep them collapsed at all times until clicked on?

Especially the search field is driving me mad when trying to grab a window. You click on what you think of as empty space on an out-of-focus Finder window to drag it and now you're stuck in an input field. ...😵‍💫

Since I upgraded to the Big Sur UI-style OSes I've resorted to removing everything from the finder window except for the search. The problem for me was the opposite, it would constantly collapse and I hated having to press a button, then click into the field to type. I don't know what other buttons you have on the toolbar, but there are likely keyboard shortcuts for at least some of them. CMD-1/2/3/4 to change view, for instance.

Don't forget to enable proxy icons. I hate how it disappears/appears when you hover over it. So many little annoyances now.
