Back in older days i used to disable Indexing it helped with performance but now with lets say Mojave or High Sierra do you disable it? Does it help with performance?

No, not really. Spotlight uses a lot less resources, than in older OS X / macOS versions. Indexing allows faster search functions, faster Time Machine backups and meta data in the Finder such as "where from" Finder comments.
