I have recently bestowed my iPhone 5s onto my son for his birthday and did a clean install of iOS10.x onto the device prior to handing it over. I have enabled a few restrictions as we find our way with him and his usage habits.
My credit card is still welded to his Apple ID and until that becomes separated - we are ensuring that in app purchases and paid apps always ask for his Apple ID Password (which he does not and will not) have.
However - when we went to allow him to perform some basic app updates yesterday - the phone keeps prompting for his password.
And yes - under Restrictions->Passwords - I have already set the toggle to allow "free" apps without requiring a password. I am assuming the "free" in this means application updates available via the App Store for apps that are already installed on the device.
But no matter what I do - (and with the toggle set to Off - no password for free downloads) the app store will not allow any updates to fly through without a password. This is very annoying - and a complete head scratcher to me.
What am I doing wrong - or - does this toggle for free updates simply not work?
Appreciate any guidance on what is going on here.
Cheers,
Sonic
