Hi there

I often use my iPad Pro at night and with the smartfolio keyboard not having any backlight it‘s really hard to type on. Unfortunately I see no way to access the software keyboard as smartfolio disables it once connected.

Is it possible to invoke the software (UI) keyboard when connected to the smartfolio keyboard?

Apple have a full page with information on using the iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard Folio.

Here’s a link and a quote of the relevant section:

Switch to software keyboard
You might need to use your software keyboard instead of the Smart Keyboard Folio or Smart Keyboard to do things like type accented characters or use dictation. To show the software keyboard, tap the down arrow key on your Smart Keyboard Folio or Smart Keyboard, then touch and hold

until the software keyboard appears. To hide the keyboard again, tap

I know this doesn't answer your question but I found a simple solution for seeing Apples SKB at night. I found a $1 USB-A reading light. I bought a USB-A to USB-C adaptor from amazon. The reading light plugs into the USC-C port on my iPad and bends to put the perfect amount of light on the keyboard. Works great for me on long night flights or when I'm working at night and don't want to bother my wife with the room light.
