Disable SMS and Mail pop up notifications?

Is there a way to disable the popup notification that shows when I get a text message or an email? I've disabled previews but still get a popup notification saying I received a text message.

My phone is always on vibrate so ideally I'd like my phone to vibrate when a new email or text arrives, and have no pop up notification, and for the unread badges to display the amount of unread texts or emails. Thanks.

You have to jailbreak. There are no pop-up notifications for email. To remove pop-ups by app, you'll have to download popup blocker in Cydia. It costs 99 cents, but if you buy it with LockInfo ($7.99) it's free. Definitely a good deal.
