Is there any way to disable the trackpad on a Macbook Pro?

I ask because my previous Compaq laptop had a physical button to turn off the trackpad. This was actually very useful in preventing inadvertent actions, with certain programs. Maybe it's not that big of a deal for most people, but after having a computer that was able to do this, it just seems like a nice feature to have.

Having a new issue using this Universal Access System preference setting.

After a day or so the "Ignore built-in trackpad when Mouse Keys is on" option becomes unchecked. I can't figure out why this happens. Doesn't seem to matter if my Macbook Pro is completely shut down or in sleep mode. Tried the setting on another Macbook and after a day or so, it also unchecked the option by itself.

Getting very annoying now that this feature keeps unchecking itself in preferences, turning it off.
