Everyone knows that when you adjust the system volume of OS X you get a sound that says how loud or soft the sound is. My school is using a Mac to run the sound for the fall play and I need to disable this sound. I know it can be done, I read how in David Pouge's OS X Leopard: The Missing Manuel, but that's currently several miles away in south Philly at my sister's house.

Can anyone tell me how to disable that sound? I think it might be a Terminal command, but like I said, I can't remember and I can't check. Please help, the show starts on Friday.

Never mind, I Googled it and found a thread here from two years ago that told me how to do it, though not explicitly, which is why the search didn't work when I tried it.

solution

Go to "System Preferences" -> "Sound" -> "Sound Effects" and unchecl "Play feedback when volume is changed"
