Is it possible to disable num lock on a (non-unibody) Macbook Pro?

they dont have a number pad so why would you want to do this. or are you talking about the function keys?

Oh, really?

Num lock is annoying as hell, and I hit it all of the time as it's right next to the volume-up key.

first of all i know the button exists. that is not what i was saying.

second. you can remap the whole keyboard if you want. here is a great link telling how to remap an os x keyboard. its for tiger but should work for leopard. just customize the steps for your needs and you should be fine.
