Is there anyway to disable the pop-up that comes after clicking it in the menu? I use it a lot and having to click ok each time I want it enabled sucks.
 
Here is one way to do it.

(Notice in the comments of that article that you can also just hold down "option" when you select it as usual. No need for a new keyboard shortcut if that's too much work.)
 
is there any way to know whether you're in private browsing mode or not without clicking on the safari menu to make it drop down?

like a custom toolbar button or something?

Thanks for the tip! I've been looking for a solution to this myself - that'll make my Safari browsing experience that much smoother, for those times I use Private Browsing.
