I've been looking around at threads trying to see what I can do to may my computer faster and I came across some threads where people talk about disabling spotlight so it cant index files n all this :confused::confused:..

What advantages/disadvantages are there to disabling spotlight?
If it is disabled, how do people search?
Is search the only function I lose?

There are far more downsides to turning off Spotlight than there are benefits. In fact, the lack of indexing might actually make your system slower. I really see no reason whatsoever why you'd want to disable Spotlight.

If you want a faster system, get more RAM.

I've had it turned off for months and haven't noticed any disadvantages, I search with 'find' like I've always done.
