Disappearing emails in Mail

I have a macbook with 10.6.8 OS....The emails seem to be disappearing. In my inbox the saved mails have all the saved headers but when I open them there is nothing there where the message should be...this is bad for me as I need them for work. It only seems to go back about 20 days they are all there but further back their blank. Anything that is in my saved mailboxes is still there just not in the inbox ..Any help would be appreciated.

It would be useful if you were to give information about your email provider and the protocol that you are using to access it. To be specific, is it POP3, IMAP, Exchange, etc.

Select the folder.
Under Mailbox in the Menu bar select Rebuild (last item)

If this fails we need more info in order to help.
