Disappearing files/folders

Im running snow leopard 10.6
Over the last week or so Ive noticed that for no reason individual files/folders...not all of them... suddenly disappear from my desktop and dont show up anywhere in the finder.The latest was a newly converted video that id just run through handbrake.The next day it had vanished.Cant seem to find any answers to this
Anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone else have access to your Mac and account?

I have never seen that behaviour, maybe you have some kind of Automator or other script to delete/move files from the Desktop to somewhere else?

Thanks for your help.Unfortunately still cant find file and still dont know whats happening...a proper mystery
