The town without George Bailey
I have an intel imac running 10.4.7 and an ibook running 10.4.8. The imac can see the ibook in the network pane of Finder, but after starting up or waking from sleep, the ibook cannot see the imac in the network pane of its Finder. I have to reset personal file sharing on the imac in order to see it again on the ibook.

I can't tell if the problem is with my ibook or imac. I think it's the imac. Any solutions to this?

Is the iMac able to connect to the internet? There was a problem with some Intel machines losing connectivity after sleeping but I thought it was restricted to 10.4.8 and AirPort. Nevertheless, check this out all the same.

Also, sleeping will lose your network connection no matter what. Sometimes Finder takes a little longer to get its act together but generally I find that clicking around in the Finder window seems to get things moving again. If not, then I renew my DHCP Lease in System Preferences. This might be quicker than resetting your file sharing. :)
