Is anyone besides me rather upset at the lack of quality in the sound from the speakers? I would have expected for these to at-least make sounds sound relatively good. Hell, my old Moto phone sounds better. Is this a problem for everyone, or do I possibly have a defect or something?

Meh, its the iPhone itself. My old Moto L7 sounded awesome and wayy louder but then again it hold like 50 songs and was pretty much a piece of crap. I use the speakerphone for what its mostly design to do: a speakerphone not for music, for that I have my $300 headphones. Don't ask much from it as its already better than some Sony-Ericssons I've heard but still falls short of Motos. Ohh and yeah Im a fanboy but that still hasn't change my opinion that the speaker(yes there is only 1) in the iPhone sucks big time.

Yeah the speaker has no bass. But what do you expect I guess, the phone is pretty damn thin and they really did pack alot of stuff into it. Plus the location of the speaker probly makes that its diameter has to be quite small.

Maybe try playing around with the equalizer and choose one that cuts the bass down. It should probly make it sound a little better.

theres another thread on it somewhere....explaining the reason why it sucks...and a solution.

im sorry but i cant find it..

however, i can tell you now if it helps..

basically, the speaker has a thin plastic sheet behind it, to protect the hardware inside from dust coming thru the holes....unfortunately on most of the iphones, its making the sound too low..

the solution sounds really dodgy, but in actualy fact, its really not and works a treat....its up to you to do it or not..

the solution is to get a really small pin, and poke the holes until you feel a slight popping of the pin piercing the plastic sheet.

trust me when i tell you it works and boosted my volume 100% at least...even watching movies on a train without headphones is audible...

but i can understand why some wont want to do it...but it does work a treat...

oh, and so far, no dust in my speaker holes

The speaker on the iPhone is a great disappointment for sure. No guts and terribly distorted for music playback at anything more than half volume.

The only solution is to avoid using it, especially for music.

errr... hellooo! its a phone! Stick in a nice pair of Bose Triports and it'll sound great. Or maybe carry a subwoofer in a rucksack on your back :D
