I have an iMac 800mHz flat panel witha Superdrive. Recently I've noticed it's inability to recognize audio CD's. It used to be able to read them just fine but now every time I put an audio CD in, burned or commercially bought, it tries to read it for about 45 seconds or so and then just spits it out. It reads DVD's fine. Audio CD's, not so much. Any ideas why it would be acting like this or how I can get it fixed? Thanks.

See if the problem occurs under both OS 9 and OS X.

If it doesn't, it's a software fault. If it does, it's a hardware problem.

Have you tried a cd cleaner?

are the CD's dirty? maybe they reached the end of their life span? try a brand NEW cd and see if it works. if not, clean the drive with them lens cleaners, but if that STILL doesnt work, then its most likely a hardware problem. i dont think software is a problem. it could also be a bad motor
