disc repair doesn't work

I have a 2.4 santa rosa mbp. I tried to run disk repair after installing FCP Studio and it wouldn't run. I then tried running verify disk permissions and that didn't work either. It would say "about 1 minute" and just stop there.

any ideas?

Its running, the estimated time is just off. Start it and leave your computer for a few hours, it will finish.

It threw me for a loop too. I kept thinking that the computer had frozen until someone told me that it actually takes a while and the time indicator is wrong.
