Discontinued App Backup

I have an app that's no longer available in the app store. I still have the app on my iPhone (iOS 9.2). The app is not physically backed up on my computer. I don't know why but the link is there but the app (.ipa file) is not in the iTunes Mobile Applications folder. I would like to be able to get the app off my phone so I can have a backup. Restore purchases in iTunes does not work (I've heard it's an iOS 9 "feature")
Does anyone know of a way to do this?
