Discount on current models when new models introduced

How much does Apple typically discount their current model laptops when they announce new models? Also, how long do they typically wait to implement the discount after announcing the new models?

They wind down their stocks and old models go into replacements or refurbished, the only real way to get a discount direct from apple is to buy refurbished, education pricing or wait for black friday.

Refurbs are as new but in a plain box and give some greta savings on current tech...

Thanks. Where is a good place to go online to get refurbs? I don't see a place for it on Apple's website and I really don't want to go to the city where the nearest Apple store is located.
