Discounted M2 iPad Air Models Now Available in Apple's U.S. Refurbished Store

Apple today added the 11-inch and 13-inch M2 iPad Air models to its refurbished store in the United States, offering these tablets at a discounted price in the U.S. for the first time since its May 2024 launch.

Refurbished M2 iPad Air models are discounted by approximately 15 percent compared to Apple's original pricing for new models. The 11-inch iPad Air with 128GB of storage is $469, for example, while the base 13-inch 128GB iPad Air is $639. Apple originally sold the 11-inch M2 iPad Air for $549, and the 13-inch model for $749.

The refurbished M2 iPad Air models were added to the UK store earlier this month, but they are new to the U.S. store.

Apple replaced the M2 iPad Air with the M3 iPad Air earlier this year, so the M2 models are the prior-generation iPad Air option and can no longer be purchased new from Apple.

There are multiple colors and capacities available as of the time of writing, as well as cellular and standard Wi-Fi models, but stock will fluctuate over time as Apple refreshes what's available. If you're aiming for a particular color or capacity, you might need to check back.

Refurbished iPads from Apple are equipped with new batteries, outer shells, and a new USB-C cable, and are essentially identical in performance to new-in-box iPads. Apple offers a one-year warranty on refurbished iPads, and buyers can purchase extended AppleCare+ coverage.

I thought I was watching closely but perhaps not as closely as I thought. I think the $100 off deal was for the current generation—the M3 iPad.

Given everything—the relative conditions, warranties, hardware, and also how well used the hardware currently is—it seems like the refurbished option here is probably the best bet for most people. That is assuming a $299 iPad isn’t sufficient. We still don’t know exactly what kind of features, including multi-window enhancements iPadOS 26 will have. Certainly most people seem to think Apple Intelligence isn’t currently something worth focusing on. So unless the laminated screen, Pencil Pro support, or USB3 speeds are important, iPad a16 may continue being a great device for a lot of people.

Personally, I think the iPad M4 is the best piece of general use consumer hardware I’ve seen in a while. It just is overkill for most for now, mostly because of the OS and current apps.

I really like the M4 iPad. Use it for work everyday for probably 90% of my work.

I wish they would come out with an oled mini, same specs as the pro. I’d pay extra for that (as I assume it would cost extra😂)

I totally missed that the refurb are actually M2, so that makes yesterdays Amazon deal even better. M4 is actually in the iPad Pro…

I did get a air yesterday to replace my wife’s iPad Air 4, also had a $150 Amazon gift card so shipped incl CA tax I paid $501 for a 11” 256

These are also available in the Canada refurbished store. I might get one of the 11 inch Airs to replace my aging 13 inch Pro. I find the 13 inch is feeling too big now and the pro features not necessary for me.

OK, I can't cancel or modify the order I made but phone support says I can order another and return this one. What I don't see is how to actually get the discount applied to the refurbished store, how do I do that?

Edit; searched the web and found the apple military page, that sends you through id.me to confirm military, and dumps you back into the apple store with banner up top "Veterans and Military Store Home". This doesn't appear to be something that gets applied to your apple account, it's only really valid for that session? So within that session search for refurbished and start shopping from there.

What did not work is verifying military and being logged in to the same Apple ID in the refurbished store. So I'm guessing every time you want to use military discount you have to verify?

Whatever, wort it for $117 savings.
