i have been toying with the idea of getting a 17inch MBP. then i thought for that money i could get a 20" imac and a MB. i was on the apple store and i placed both items in my basket and left them.us today i got an email of an apple rep asking if i needed any help and that he would see if there was any further reductions i could get.us

has this happened to anyone else

Yes, quite a few people here have reported similar experiences...seems to be more common near the end of a financial quarter or when they're trying to move stock of a certain item for whatever reason.

I got an email like this back in January because I had two MacBooks and a Mac mini in my cart (which I later bought). I had a couple conversations with the guy (who was very nice), but he never ended up offering me anything more interesting than the student discount. You might have better luck, though.
