Hey guys, I bought an iPhone 4S a few months ago off Craigslist and recently the home button stopped working. The phone's warranty is still in effect until 12/13/13 and I went to the Apple support site to start the service process. Apple then shipped me a box to put my phone in. When I took out my sim card, I discovered that the serial and imei on my sim tray do not match the ones on my phone. I checked the serial on the sim tray it points to a iPhone 4 with expired warranty. So what are my options at this point? Should I still send the phone in?

Are you sure? Is just that people had been saying on the apple support forums that they were denied service at the apple store when the genius discovered the mismatched sim tray

People switch sims all the time and many times they swap the whole sim tray not thinking it's a big deal.
I don't think that's a reason to deny you service. It's not the sim tray that has anything to do with any issue the phone might have.

i cant imagine them denying you service just because of the SIM try. that would be really sleazy.

On the one occasion I had an iPhone replaced in an Apple Store.

The guy never looked at the sim tray. The closest he looked at the sim tray was when he popped it out to take my sim card out before he gave me a replacement iPhone, he never looked at the sim tray to check the IMEI/serial number on it.

By the sounds of it, the previous owner of your iPhone has possibly wrecked the sim tray, went to an Apple Store and they have given them one from a iPhone that they've had lying around.

Just got my replacement phone back from Apple. It seems mismatched sim tray aren't really a issue.

Thanks guys!
