1. Does the Discovery+ app interface look like this (see below) on your Apple TV device/box when you fast-forward/rewind/pause/play a show?

2. Do you know how to fix it? I must have toggled some setting somewhere.

This is how I’ve learned to fast-forward—in this app only—using the Siri Remote:
  • Touch the Clickpad to bring up the fast-forward/rewind/pause/play on-screen interface
  • Click/swipe to the right once to select the on-screen fast-forward button.
  • Press the center of Clickpad to select the on-sceen fast-forward button to advance 10 seconds.

Those "terrible" controls don't look that different than the Apple-created playback controls for Apple apps on AppleTV. Apple puts a few overlay marks & buttons in different spots than shown in that picture but try playing a video in AppleTV (app) or Computers (app) and summon those playback controls. They look pretty similar.

Those are the playback controls the Discovery+ developers chose to use, and they’re terrible. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Thank you for responding. Good to know that I can stop looking everywhere for a fix, at least.

Ugh, that's atrocious. I wish Apple would just force every Apple TV app to use the native video player, which is 10x better than any of the terrible custom ones I've seen in any app.

The Discovery+ controls work nothing like Apple's even if they look somewhat similar.

Agree that what is described is a bit fiddly. Scrubbing is OK in my experience. I suspect they use their own player as they have additional things like clickable markers in the timeline, particularly (maybe only) for sport. I use it to watch TNT Sport, Eurosport, etc here in the UK and it works really well. I assume these things aren’t available in the native player but this is just an assumption.

I have the same issue with that Discovery app and have been thinking that these controls should be universal and not by app.
Room for improvement

The problem is some apps want to provide extra features that wouldn't be possible by using the default player. Apple is never going to require this.
