iPod touch Disintegrating iPod Touch

The plastic of my iPod touch, which i bought when they first came out last year, has started to disinegrate leaving missing chunks around the edge and a sugary white mass of rotten plastic.

Has anyone had this happen to them and does anyone know if it is covered by the warranty? cheers x
