Hi

something i've been wondering for years about the disk drive on ibooks/MB/PB/MBP etc - should the drive 'snatch' the disk so violently and make that horrible 'in-out-shake-it-all-about' noise that always makes my heart stop for a second and i think "i have put a disk in and not a handful of gravel, haven't I?!"

I've used drives where the disk goes in smoothly after only about 1 inch of putting the disk in - with apple laptops it seems you have to put the disk in about 4 inches before it snatches it away from you.

I've found this on 3 ibooks and one MB - is this the same with every laptop??

They sure don't instill confidence in their durability. I always feel like they will break the next time I put a disk in. Especially on iMacs.

it's the same on dektops too is it?

I've had one disk drive replaced under waranty after i heard something, not quite go bang, but sort of 'thud' and i had to get the paper clips out to retrieve the disk.

Macworld 2008 wishlist - a smooth loading disk drive please steve!
