Has your Mac been in sleep mode when the error occurs?

How old is the external drive and is it directly connected to the Mac?
1. No
2. Not sure of its age but it is only a few years.

I found the problem I had another drive plugged in that the Mac was refusing to moiunt or read, and all the
time that was plugged in I was getting the disk eject message for the other good drive.

I'm using a 2019 Intel iMac with the latest version of MacOS Sequoia (15.6). Rarely have that issue with HD's, but frequenly encounter it with SSD's. It's possible they are over-drawing the port's current limits. I found that switching from a USB port to a TB port (which has higher limits) helps, but it still happens. Also, higher-power external SSD's create more issues.

Though my issue was intermitted, while yours seems repeated, so it could be something different.

What model of Mac and SSD are you using?

Thank you but I did post above that I did discover what was causing the issue.
