Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using.

Colloquy, HandBrake, iCal, Mail, Safari, TextEdit, Finder is what im running. i quit textedit, mail, ical and i keep getting the popup. what do i need to do to fix this?

powerbook g4 x.4.8

help.

Is something filling up your hard drive? What it's saying is not that you're using too much RAM per se, but that the hard drive is so full that it cannot allocate more space to put in the virtual memory (swap) file. That drives the OS crazy.

So go look at your hard drive. Especially to see if you're accidentally filling it up with Handbrake?

My daughter called me with a similar issue ...
I asked her if she had FileVault turned on ... yes
when was the last time she did a Restart ... months
Restart ( or Log-out )... dialogue > "FileVault needs to recover space" !
Problem solved and 75gb recovered, bingo...:)
