Disk Image Resizing Help

I’m trying to resize an encrypted disk image using Disk Utility. When I click the “Resize Image” button on the toolbar, I’m offered three options:

Resize Partition and Image
Resize Partition Only
Resize Image Only

What’s the difference between each of these three options?? I’m trying to understand which option I want to choose, and why.
