Since upgrading to HS I have noticed my hard disk filling up, and space not being retrieved when I delete things. Example - last night I had 582GB of free space, today I have 577GB without downloading anything significant. I understand temporary items and caches etc, but 5GB lost overnight?

Also I just deleted 500MB of old stuff, and finder has not updated the amount of free space. This worked pretty well in every previous version of MacOS, why not in HS?

I believe Time Machine creates local backups, but I thought they did not count against available space in finder, so not sure if there could be another culprit.

I have the same problem. Ever since I've upgraded to HS, I've had problems where kernel_task keeps filling up my disk until the system crashes. I've deleted around 100gb of space, and as of right now, I'm seeing around 10gb free space reported by Finder.

As far as I can tell, my problem is not due to Time Machine local snapshots, which makes it more frustrating. I can't for the life of me figure out what the cause is.
