Disk Utility and diskutil in El Capitan

If Disk Utility First Aid finds error in disk, does it ask what to do before it fixes it?

Is this right way to check external disks?

diskutil verifyVolume /Volumes/Backup

What is correct code to check boot disk?

diskutil verifyVolume ???

Disk Utility has two different kinds of checks depending which row is selected in side bar.

Does these diskutil codes check both? If not, now i can force diskutl to check both?

As far as I can tell, Apple has not published manual pages for Yosemite or El Capitan.
