Disk Utility: Disk Erase failed with error: Cannot allocate memory

So I'm trying to install a new HDD in one of the new MacBooks and when trying to format the disk I get the error: Disk Erase failed with error: Cannot allocate memory.

A search hasn't really thrown anything up. Any ideas?
