I run Disk Utility on my MBA hard drive periodically as a diagnostic. When I ran it yesterday, it said:

Checking volume information.
Invalid volume free block count
(It should be 6605249 instead of 6490432)
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
File system check exit code is 8.
Operation successful.

I'm not having any problem right now, but this doesn't sound good. How much trouble am I in, and what do I do about it?

Did you try a repair?
Boot to your recovery system.
Run Disk Utility/First Aid.
If you still get that same error, try the first aid repair again.
If you still see that, you may need to (after making sure you have a good backup) format your drive, reinstall OS X, and restore your drive files and data from your backup.
Another great tip would be to try another disk repair utility. Disk Warrior is still my choice for that.

Be aware that your drive may be failing. So, if first aid fails, and alternate utilities also fail, you may find out that formatting the drive may fail, also.
If that happens, then you will need to replace the drive.

Thank you so much, DeltaMac!!! I booted to the recovery system, ran Disk Utility/First Aid one time, and it was successful! Thanks!
