Hello - I am new to OSX and still getting to grips with it all - Disk Utility is very handy but I am unsure why every disk is represented by 2 icons?

IF I am formatting one for example which one would I format? They are both the same...

Also, should I enable journaling on all drives? Is there any drawbacks to doing this?

Many thanks
SC.

Well, the reason that there are two drives is because the top one is the actual physical drive and the second is the partition on the drive. If you had two partitions on one drive there would be two shown, etc.

^^see mine below, drives with multiple partitions.

I have journaling enabled on my HFS drives, and have never had a problem.
