Okay, so in order to limit the size of time machine I decided to partition my external hard drive to two partitions using non erasing partitioning. I had ~320GB of a 500GB used and I set out a second partition to 50GB and it said under the main larger 'This volume will not be erased'.

It erased both partitions (rather quickly) and now I am panicking.

I am on the phone with applecare and they're telling me I'm SOL. I have Disk Utility and feel like I am going to be sick.

Please help.

You can get a file recovery program and recover what was there. That's about your only option at this point.

That's BS. Apple should pay for a professional disk recovery, it said, this partition will not be erased.

volume. in the first partition that was going to be made (which was auto-named Jake's 500GB like my drive before the partitioning, it said This volume will not be erased.
