Disk utility question?

What exactly will running disk repair in disk utility do? (I'm not talking about repairing permissions, but disk repair...just to clarify)

Does it erase anything?

It fixes issues in the File Table or any logical problems indicated by a Verify Disk. Some problems can't be fixed with Disk Utility.

No, it is the Mac equivalent of ScanDisk or Chkdsk on Windows.
