I'm just in the middle of reformatting the RAID using Disk Utility.

It's been sitting at "Partitioning" (with the status bar at about 10%) for over an hour.

It's a 4 disk raid box that adds up to 1TB.

Does it usually take this long?

I just went into Disk Utility and am using the Erase tab, formatting with Mac OS X Journaled.

When I try to quit Disk Utility, it said that there's still an operation in progress and that quitting may make the disc unusable.

Does that mean the disc will be permanently unusable, or does it mean unusable until I reformat it again?

I'm running the latest Leopard on a 2.7GHz DP G5.

Your disks should be fine, just quit and reformat.
Afaik, Disk Utility can be touchy when you partition and use Raid, look for some advice here .

Ah ok, thanks.

Actually I did end up quitting.

Then I went to the RAID tab instead and it reformatted it just fine.

Thanks for the reply :)
