So I am selling my mac and need to erase all my stuff. I have a 160gb hard drive and plan to use disk utility to get it off. But I have 2 ?'s. I have lots of saved passwords on here. So what is a fast and safe way to wipe it clean? I know there is something like 7 passes and 30 passes. What else is there and how long is the fastest way?

You only need a simple erase, it'll wipe it over with 0's and there's no need for 7-pass or 35-pass. It'll be far quicker just with a basic erase, and it's perfectly safe. It'll take a couple of hours, maybe 3 or 4 max.

Great. Thanks for the fast response too.

Sorry spinnerlys. I tried searching Disk utility but nothing really looked like it was what I was looking for. My bad
