Display and keys lights

Is it my imagination or does the backlight, and keyboard lights reset themselves every time I either turn off the MBP or charge it?

Always make the keys lights barely there to save some battery(not that it works) but wondered why it's always up again

In the Keyboard System Preferences pane, there's an option that says "Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light". If this is on, the brightness of the backlight and the keyboard will automatically change based on how much light the camera is detecting. So, yes, it does ignore your manual settings, since it's configured to change automatically.
