Display brightness keeps returning to dim

my iPad Pro is driving me crazy 😡 😭

Ex: When reading a Apple News+ magazines, screen brightness dims.
I reset it to half brightness.
It immediately dims again.
I reset it to half brightness.
It immediately dims again.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

M4 iPad Pro 13" 1 TB, iPadOS 18.5

check and make sure that Settings>Display & Brightness>Brightness>True Tone is set to OFF.
