I did a bit of searching on the forum, but I haven't quite found the answer I was looking for. I currently own a late 2008 17" MacBook Pro. I'm looking into upgrading soon, and I'm not sure if I should go for the 15" instead. My main worry is the resolution. Right now I'm working with 1800 x 1200. Is there a huge difference with 1680 x 1050? Also - if any of you have switched from the 17" to the 15", did you notice much difference? I'm a bit hesitant, but transporting it is a slight issue to me. I commute to school and I'd rather not carry such a big laptop with me, but my main concern is the difference in resolution.

Thanks! : )

It is rather simple to try out.
Set your resolution to 1680x1050 and try it out.
Yeah it will look imperfect but it works and shows you exactly how much stuff fits on 1680x1050.

I tried that, but I figured it would be a bit different on a smaller screen size. : /

Not much. That is what fits on stuff.
ppi is about the same thus text and stuff will be as small/big as it was on your native resolution.
Be a bit creative if you want both (res & text size) make screenshots and display them in native resolution at 100% zoom level.

15" HR is 128.6 ppi
17" is 133.2 ppi
ppi is about the same.
display a 1680x1050 screenshot at pixel for pixel res aka 100% zoom level and you have exactly the same thing.
