I'm looking for a quality HD monitor for my new MacBook Pro. I am also confused about the resolution of my Retina display on the MBP. Is it 1080p? I hope that doesn't sound stupid, but I don't know about displays. I'd like a display that is of similar quality to my retina MBP. Some help please! I'm confused

1080p would mean a display running at full HD, or 1920 x 1080 resolution.
If you do connect to a 1080p display, you will find it noticeably less sharp compared to the retina display, which would, by default, be showing 2560 x 1600 on a 13-inch screen, or 2880 x 1800 on a 15-inch retina display.
If you really want similar quality, you could look for at least a QHD display, or 4K
Any 2018 MBPro will support 2 4k external displays, should you want to do that, or at least 1 5k display.
