I've seen a couple computer desktops, and I've noticed some of them have a little Display icon in the upper left corner by the Battery, Clock, etc. Anyone know what it does?

It lets you change resolutions and it has utility if you have two screens. You can turn it on from the Displays System Preferences pane.
