Hi

I can't remember how to get rid of the Macintosh HD icon on the screen

Can someone remind me

Thanks

Open Finder. Select Preferences from the finder tab.
Select General tab from the preference window. Then Uncheck Hard Disk item.

Related to this I found that when I downloaded Firefox it put an icon on the screen. I was able to get rid of it as you described however it was the "CD etc." that I had to uncheck. Is this what others have experienced?

The icon you got comes up while you install the software. You just need to delete it after you have put the application icon in the application folder.

daddy: You probably didn't install Firefox, and just opened it off the disk image. Copy the application to your /Applications folder, then the disk image is no longer needed and you can unmount it.

edit: too slow
